বায়োগ্রাফি : William Elliot Griffis was not only a prolific writer but also an American orientalist, Congregational minister, lecturer. His father worked as a Sea captain and later as a coal trader. He served in the American Civil war for two months and invaded Pennsylvania in 1863. He attended Rutgers University at New Brunswick, New Jersey, and graduated in 1869. He tutored English and Latin to a young Samurai there. He also travelled Europe and studied seminary of the Reformed Church in America in New Brunswick (known today as the New Brunswick Theological Seminary).
