A poet in the oral tradition, his works were likely recorded by others. He is usually portrayed as blind. the Iliad and the Odyssey provided the foundation of Greek learning and culture throughout the Classical age and shaped the backbone of humane education down to the time of the Roman Empire and the spread of Christianity. the Homeric epics had a profound impact on the Renaissance culture of Italy after indirectly through the medium of Virgil’s Aeneid and directly through Italy when the Greek scholars who fled westward from the Ottomans.
